At our most recent soirée at the house on Travis, we celebrated the Tour de France, Dallas-style. Since we were actually in Paris last year for the finish of the race, we thought it only fitting.
Unlike the participants in the famed bicycle race, no evidence of anabolic steroids, exogenous testosterone, nor doping was found to have been used by any of the contenders. Only perfect blends of grenache, mouvedre, meunier, chardonnay, semillon, chenin blanc, syrah, merlot, and cabernet grapes from some of the most famous wine regions is France showed their best face. These wines certainly did their hometowns proud. We paired these sumptuous sippers with french cheeses, baguette, and nicoise olives. Bon appetite.
We began our tour in Champagne and then continued to Alsace Lorraine, the Loire Valley, Burgundy, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and crossed the finish line in Bordeaux. Although probably not geographically the most direct route, the wine tasting progressed quite successfully.
The evening continued with a short stroll (a bit of a sway for some) to one of our neighborhood’s 5-star restaurants, Saluum, just one block from the house. Another reason we love Uptown. The food did not disappoint and was a great end to a lovely evening with friends. Not to be upstaged by last year’s Elvis-is-still-dead party, we plan to make this an annual event, just like the real race.
VIVA LA FRANCE, y’all.

I love it! How fun. Any leftovers for us?

No leftovers, however, we do have three more bottles of the St. Henri Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which we bought when we were there in July, 2006. We might be persuaded to open one of those when you visit (it was fab, by the way). ~kp~

Well,
I hear that mom already has plans for me to be her personal gardener and to use Will has a furniture mover in September..
Is this repayment for the wedding? If so, we have a long way to go.

At this hour it is looking more and more as though that deal is not going to happen. If that’s the case, Will should thank his lucky stars; he is clearly the one with the most to gain by having it die on the vine. ~kp~
